Organization

Our Rector Rev. David Bridgforth (brings us years of experience and savvy for managing a growing parish of our size. He conducts Sunday school for adults.  He is always available for pastoral duties when needed.  His spiritual leadership helps us fulfill our statement of purpose which is on the opening page.

The organizational structure of St. George’s is one of representatives. Our Vestry is the group that is responsible for the finances, policies, and structure of the church. Members of the Vestry are elected to their positions of responsibility at the annual meeting.St. George’s by laws call for seven vestry people, and we have and ex officio clerk and treasurer, and of course, our priest. The Vestry meets monthly, and all sessions are open to all members of the parish.

The Senior Warden, who is elected by the other members of the vestry, is responsible for planning the agenda and conducts the meetings. The Senior Warden is also directly responsible to the priest and functions as the priest’s resource and support.

The Junior Warden is also elected by the members of the Vestry primarily responsible for the church’s grounds and facilities.

The major committees of the vestry are Christian Education, Outreach, Hospitality, Building and Grounds, Strategic Planning and Membership Development, and Greeters.

Fortunately, we are blessed with an eclectic group of church members that includes experienced business, and organization managers and leaders. Some of these are strong members of the Vestry. We expect these people to continue at their present upper level of involvement with church administration and policy making. Prior vestry members continue to make a contribution to our church community.

St. George’s is part of the Diocese of Upper South Carolina, and as such is responsible to The Right Reverend Andrew Waldo, our Bishop.

Leo Smith is our Treasurer serving a valuable function as a long time Ad hoc member of the Vestry.  His background as a local banker adds a valuable dimension to our financial management.  He also adds strategic input to our overall planning and budgeting and is Mr. Volunteer when a job needs to be done.  He also serves the ministry of taking the Eucharist to sick members who are unable to come to Sunday Service.

Our Music Director Jamie Hawkins is an accomplished artist who is building our church choir. His solos make your heart sing.

We also have a great administrative assistant, Judith Polson, who helps the Vestry, church ministries and our priest.
